All textile artists confront a big problem from time to time: What fiber is this made of?? Is it silk or polyester? Wool or a blend? Whether it’s fabric or yarn, understanding the core makeup of your materials is critical to determining the best techniques for working with them and caring for your creations. In this class, you will learn how to identify the component fibers in your fabrics/yarns using common household equipment and supplies.

INSTRUCTOR:
Maria Pacheco taught fiber authentication in her role as Associate Professor of Chemistry at Buffalo State College. She is also lifelong textile artist who specialized in Kumihimo (a Japanese braiding technique).
