Alterations 101: Hems (June 22, 2024)
Alterations 101: Hems (June 22, 2024)
In this 3-hour session, we will practice three types of hems seen in everyday and special occasion clothing:
Narrow/baby or rolled hem—widely used on formal dresses or gowns, especially curved hems or skirts with a lot of volume. No pressing involved.
Blind hem—Commonly seen on all types of dressier pants or skirts.
Jeans hem—How DO you navigate those giant bumps created by thick layers of denim? Also, learn an alternative/shortcut to hemming jeans or jean jackets.
SKILL LEVEL—Novice
Students should have used a sewing machine a few times and completed one or more projects within the last few years. (NOTE: This class is not well suited for absolute beginners with little or no sewing machine experience.)
WHAT TO BRING:
The instructor will have samples and sample fabrics for you to master these hems. Students may bring in one garment to work on in class.
INSTRUCTOR:

Her passion is supporting new and experienced sewists in the creation of beautiful, comfortable clothes that fit as great as they look.
