If you’ve taken the “Get the Most From Your Sewing Machine Class” with us or have equivalent basic sewing machine skills, this beginner level class is intended for you. As a great introduction to garment sewing or a refresher, we will be making this loose-fitting, simple top over a half-day session. With only three pattern pieces, the base style is a modified boat neck and the hemline sits at the high hip. This is the cropped variation. The tunic variation hemline sits below the full hip and is intended to just cover your bum.

PATTERN AND SIZE INCLUSIVITY:
Upon registration, instructor Michelle Frick will contact you to produce your pattern in your own size. Your pattern will be ready for you when you arrive to class. The size guide below represents a small range of sizing options. We can accommodate petite sizes, plus sizes, petite/plus sizes, and misses (represented below).

SKILLS YOU WILL LEARN:
•  Reading and interpreting garment pattern requirements and instructions
•  Fabric properties, laying out and cutting from a pattern
•  How to apply bias binding
•  Basic hemming

SUPPLIES:
Please bring your own fabric in the correct yardage for your size. This pattern requires 1-3/8 to 2-1/2 yards of lightweight woven or knit fabric. The amount of fabric needed depends on the width of your fabric and the size you are making. We recommend a lightweight cotton (batiste, voile, gauze) or linen, rayon (a.k.a., viscose), or a light to medium weight knit fabric. See size and fabric guide below for selecting your fabric. There is a limited selection of fabrics available for minimal cost at Stitch Buffalo.

SKILLS REQUIRED:
This is a beginner level garment sewing class. Students should know how to operate a sewing machine and have made at least two other projects (non-garment or garment) on a sewing machine.

INSTRUCTOR:
Michelle Frick has been sewing clothes for herself and others for decades. Her passion is supporting new and experienced sewists in the creation of beautiful, comfortable clothes that fit as great as they look. Over the last two years, Michelle has been working as a garment sewing instructor and has been immersed in research on the latest techniques and methods, including CAD pattern drafting, projector sewing, and sustainable sewing practices both in the home sewing and commercial fashion industries.
