You are invited to participate in a community-wide project memorializing the victims of the racially motivated massacre that occurred on May 14, 2022, in Buffalo, NY.

To memorialize our loss and recognize the resilience of our community-based, thousands of people around Buffalo (in a variety of locations) will be engaging in art-making sessions to create cyanotype memorial flags. These will be displayed on the site of the massacre and in various locations radiating from the site.

This project is inspired by blues music (which transforms suffering) and by Tibetan prayer flags (which represent compassion, peace, strength and wisdom). As the wind blows through these flags, the goodwill and compassion of their makers will spread into the surrounding spaces.

SKILLS REQUIRED:
No experience is required.

LEADER:
This workshop will be led by Brendan Bannon and the team of instructors leading the Blues Flag Memorial project. Brendan Bannon is a photographer and teacher whose work has appeared in The New York Times, Christian Science Monitor, The Daily Telegraph, Independent, Guardian, and other international publications. He is also the founder of Do You See What I See? is an arts education initiative conducted through the UNHCR for children in refugee camps.
