Handmade Bird from "Flock of All Colors" Exhibit—by Mu Mu
These birds were originally created for a spring 2023 installation at the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens, as seen in the accompanying photo (courtesy of Michael Mandolfo).
Materials:
Each bird is one of a kind, hand-stitched by local refugee women artisans using entirely upcycled fabric panels in a mix of prints and colors, including sari silks and wool from Oxford Pennant. These materials are hand-embroidered and/or beaded by each artist, then assembled using hand stitching, and stuffed with polyester fiber fill for a light yet study construction.
Display:
Birds ship with an attached clear thread allowing them to be hung easily from a ceiling hook or other fixed, elevated point. They can also be displayed sitting on a shelf, table, or mantel.
Size:
Length (beak to tail): 11 inches
Width (wingspan): 12 inches
