The inkle loom is a useful tool for producing strips or bands of hand-woven, warp-faced cloth or ribbon. This type of weaving has been around for centuries. In early times, these narrow strips were used as belts, headbands, bag handles, or straps to tie and support things. When sewn together, the strips could be turned into bags for gathering and carrying. The strips were also used aesthetically to decorate clothing.

In this class, you’ll learn the fundamentals of inkle loom weaving, from setting up the loom to accomplishing basic weaving techniques. With guidance from your instructor and hands-on practice, you'll gain confidence in handling the loom and manipulating the threads to create beautiful woven bands.

Andrea Kuettel is an experience sewist, knitter, and weaver, as well as a long-time volunteer at Stitch Buffalo.
