Mirror-Embroidery Dove Ornament by Freshta
Mirror-Embroidery Dove Ornament by Freshta
With their ability to roam the earth as well as soar up into the sky, birds have long symbolized freedom. They are often seen as representative of the soul’s journey in pursuit of higher knowledge. More colloquially, seeing (and seeking) birds is a popular hobby that connects us with nature.
Mirror embroidery is a needlework technique that involves stitching shisha (“little glass”) mirrors in a framework mesh. The style dates back to the 1700s and is used throughout South Asia from from Afghanistan through Western India.
Our hand-embroidered products are each one of a kind—as individual as the woman who made it! Every piece is lovingly crafted in our studio or in the home of a resettled refugee woman from Buffalo, NY. All Stitch Buffalo products are made using upcycled materials, donated by the community and provided to our artists at no charge.
