Crochet "Job's Tears" Necklace (Three Strands) by Mu Mu

$65.00

The beads used in this necklace were grown near the Stitch Buffalo studio at the Massachusetts Avenue Project’s urban farm. The sparkle and fine details of this one-of-a-kind piece make it a true standout!

Job's Tears is a cereal plant, related to corn, that was once an important source of food. Native to Southeast Asia, it was introduced to Northern China and India in remote antiquity. Elsewhere, it is cultivated in gardens as an annual. Today we grow Job’s Tears primarily for their very hard, teardrop shaped grains that are used as beads for making jewelry.

In folklore, wearing Job's Tears is thought to bring luck and health. They are often used in prayer beads, and are know as yi yi ren in traditional Chinese medicine.

All of our hand-made products are one of a kind—as individual as the woman who created it. They are lovingly produced in our studio or in the homes of resettled refugee women from Buffalo, NY. Stitch Buffalo products are made using upcycled materials, donated by the community and provided to our artists at no charge.
