Join visiting artist Shannon Downey (aka @BadassCrossStitch) for a community stitching class in celebration of women! Shannon is creating a special “Women Are Magic” design just for this class and will walk you through all the steps of expressing your ideas through embroidery. People of all skill levels (including absolute beginners) are invited to attend.
We’ll also have plenty of time simply to BE TOGETHER in community—to learn from Shannon’s experiences as an artist and activist, to share our lived experiences, to laugh and commiserate, to support and encourage, and to reap all the feel-good benefits of building connections within our community.
All supplies will be provided, and your enrollment fee will benefit Stitch Buffalo’s capital campaign.
But wait—there’s more! This is just one of three events planned during Shannon’s visit to Buffalo. Be sure to check out the others at www. stitchbuffalo.org/calendar.
INSTRUCTOR:
Shannon Downey is a Chicago artist, activist, craftivist, community builder, and general instigator who creates art projects designed to inspire others to take action, think, discuss, engage with democracy and their community, and find some digital/analog balance.
In her own words, “I am queer, anti-racist, feminist, anti-capitalist, highly political, and committed to growth, learning, honesty, and doing whatever I can to make this an equitable world. My art generally tackles what I call ‘the big three’ systems of oppression: white supremacy, patriarchy, and capitalism.”
