PLEASE NOTE:
This class will be held at Birge Mansion, 2 Symphony Circle, Buffalo, NY 14201.
Parking lot is located just off of Richmond Avenue.
All are welcome to an integrative, artist led, community art making workshop at the Birge Mansion—an expansive, light filled, historic space where facilitator Melora Griffis’s solo show (city of no Illusions) is currently installed. We will engage in a process of exploration, play, and reflection, beginning with a physical improvisational “warm-up” followed by experimental art making.
The expression “home is where the heart is” suggests that where we live is a place of connection. Bringing awareness to the body as a fundamental place of residence, we will listen for an intuitive choice as to what locus we will picture—be it personal or public—a room, house, community, institution, a secret or imaginary setting, a memory space, a site in the wild, or a place within. Discoveries will inform mixed media work to take home using paint, pencil, needle and thread, notions, and fabric.
SUPPLIES AND EXPERIENCE
All supplies will be provided, along with aprons, water, and light snacks. Suggested ages 8 to 88. No experience is required. Comfortable dress is encouraged.
