Discover the exciting world of e-textiles in this hands-on workshop! Learn how to incorporate simple circuits into fabric using conductive thread, LEDs, switches, and snaps to create a textile project that lights up. This beginner-friendly class will guide you through the basics of e-sewing, allowing you to experiment with pre-wired components before stitching them into place. No programming or prior electronics experience is required—just bring your creativity! By the end of the session, you'll have a unique, interactive textile piece that blends craft and technology in a fun and accessible way.

SUPPLIES AND EXPERIENCE
Basic hand sewing experience is helpful, but not required. Enrollment fee of $50 includes instruction and all supplies. This chass is best for ages 13 through adult. Minors must be accompanied by an enrolled parent.

INSTRUCTOR:
Naomi Thompson, PhD., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Learning and Instruction at University of Buffalo. She is interested in the ways that crafting, art-making, and other design activities can enhance equitable learning in both formal and informal environments. Naomi also works with the Digital Youth Divas Project, engaging middle school girls (especially those from non-dominant communities) in design-based engineering and computer science activities.

Stitch Buffalo is committed to fostering sustainability practices and reducing waste in the textile industry. In this workshop, we will strive to minimize waste and work as much as possible with supplies that have been rescued for reuse.

Due to the nature of this class and the preparation required, class fees are non-refundable.
